Will Santa ditch the red suit this holiday for something more “trendy”? Pantone’s Color of the Year Announced!

Pantone Color Of The Year Marsala Color

So, who is ready to paint the town Marsala in 2015? Pantone has announced their Color of the Year – and it’s pretty darn fabulous.

This wine-red hue has already been the buzz of internet chit-chat for the past 48 hours. Articles on decorating with marsala, dressing in marsala, using marsala in graphic design, and even some people hating on the hue. All critics aside, you have to admit, the name is pretty catchy:

“Excuse me sir, do you have this jacket in Marsala? I’m feeling extra sophisticated today.”

Now the big question: How does Pantone choose their color of the year?

For the past 15 years Pantone has nominated a Color of the Year. This color is based on which specific hue designers and consumers will all supposedly be using, wearing, and buying for the year.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”
